To fly over Borso

A short list of useful notes, tips and tricks to fly here...

Click on the links below to view the information about the sigle sites

Borso is one of the most popular flying places in Europe. If you also want to visit here, take a few minutes to read this page. There are some interesting notes and, above all, some tips and safety notes that only the local pilots know...

Our site is suitable for both beginners and cross-country pilots because it is in front of flat land, but allows long cross-country flights in the mountains (177 km was flown in 2001).

There is a tourist office, open every day from 10am to 12 noon: vivereilgrappa@libero.it, Tel. 0423-910526

Where there are a lot of people, unfortunately, there are also some thiefs, so please avoid leaving important things in your car, or at least, do not leave them in sight!

Take off

bullet

Col Serai "Casette", height 977m asl

Direction: the take off is westward but you can also start with wind from the south-west, or a weak north-west. It is quite big and easy for everybody.

Notes: after the take off you have to turn left (southward) to exit towards the plain, following a short valley, and keeping the mountains on your left.

Safety remarks: on the back side of the take off, eastward, there is a small field, this side is ABSOLUTELY FORBIDDEN, because it is very dangerous to start from here. Some pilots could be able to start in the right direction with a weak east wind (from behind) but this kind of take off, even if not forbidden, is very difficult due to the turbulence after the take off, and before you reach the plain.

Top Landing: no problem for top landing. Back

bullet

Da Bepi, height 850m asl

Direction: south, possible with wind from the south-east to south-west.

Notes: it is a bit steep, so it is difficult to stop the take off. A part of the field is covered by green synthetic carpet. When using this part, be careful not to tangle your glider on the ground! On the left side of the take off there are some trees, so when the wind comes from east/south east there is a bit of turbulence. In this case be careful and take off only when ALL the windsocks are ok.

Safety remarks: the hang glider take off is just 50m to the left, so it is forbidden to turn left immediately after the take off.

Top Landing: this is very difficult because the field is so steep and small and the trees are quite big. Back

bullet

Antenne, height 770m asl

Direction: from south-east to north-east. It is perfect to soar with wind from east.

Notes: the take off is interrupted by the road, but the best side of it is the part below the road. Starting from the top side means flying over the road with only a few meters of height.

Safety remarks: near the take off the are some dirt quarries. It is dangerous to fly low over them because you could find sudden and strong turbulence. If you want to move south ward, follow the mountain and do not shortcut it by passing behind the quarry.

Top Landing: take it easy, the field is big but often pilots arrive too high. Make a new lap and try again! Back

bullet

Panettone, height 1570m asl

Direction: the best is east, but you can start in every direction, except north west. It is very big (there is space for more than 100 gliders). If the wind is from the west/south-west you could have some problems in reaching the official landing place, because it is quite far.

Notes: no problem at all. As the road to arrive is quite long, try to have a direct recovery of your car because it is boring to come back just for the car.

Safety notes: n.n.

Top Landing: very easy. Back

Landing

bullet

Paradiso, height 180m asl

The official paragliding landing field. It is quite big, but there is something to know...

North side: there is a telephone cable and some trees. Near the ground sometimes there is a very strong downdraft which could hang you on the cable! So if you decide to enter the field from this north side, keep some height and land on the second part of the field, a bit long, also because there is room to land on a second field.

East side: there is a big building. It is forbidden to fly over it. On the other hand, it is rare that a strong wind comes from the west and you can enter the landing from one of the corners.

South side: no problem but you can not enter too high, because at the end of the field, on the north side, there is the cable...

West side: just be careful with the turbulence of the building if the wind from the east is strong.

There are two windsocks but only the central one is "good", the other is too close to the building. Back

bullet

Delta, via caose, height 150m asl

It is the official landing field for hang-gliders. It is very big and without many problems, but it is a bit far from the mountain. It is a good second chance in case, coming from Mt. Grappa, you are too short for the Paradiso landing. Back

Cross country flights

You only have to choose where you want to go! Then start!

The typical cross country flight is: take off - Mt. Grappa - top landing at take off. It is 15 km and quite an easy flight. Other usual goals are : Feltre to the north, Mt. Summano to the west, Valdobbiadene and Vittorio Veneto to the east. This last direction has one strong limit: from Monday to Friday you can not pass the Piave river, because it is a Papa area (no fly military area). We can fly there only on the weekends
